Thomas R. Walsh, CISSP, BSM
Senior Consultant

Mr. Walsh has 20 years experience in information technology and security. He has ten years of experience with information systems security training. He has also held management positions that include responsibilities for conducting risk assessments, security audits and the development of security plans. Mr. Walsh is a consultant with Healthcare Computing Strategies, Inc.

For more than two years, Mr. Walsh was Information Security Manager for a major health system. In this position, he was responsible for the policy development and implementation of the information security program at 8 hospitals and 30 clinics. He was also responsible for the Internet/Intranet and the organization's web home page.

Among other achievements, he has:

• Achieved and maintained the status of Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), a professional credential for information systems security that is recognized across industries.
• Became a certified Safeguards Security Instructor for the Department of Energy.
• Is a recognized national speaker on computer security. Presentation topics included: Internet Security, Promoting Security of Awareness, Measuring the Effectiveness of Computer Security Training.
• Was President of the New Mexico Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA).
• Is a member of the Board of Directors, HIMSS Heart of America Chapter.

HIPAA Specific Experience

• Mr. Walsh participated in the design of HIPAA Security Readiness Assessment Tools that are part of a high-level HIPAA Readiness Assessment including transactions and code sets, identifiers, security, and privacy.
• Conducted several HIPAA security readiness assessments for a large multi-state health delivery network in the Midwest. The assessment included review of security Business Impact Analysis tools and the use and validation of the client's self-assessment.

Mr. Walsh received his Bachelor of Science and Management (BSM) degree from Baker University in Overland Park, Kansas. He is a Certified Franklin Quest, Time Management Instructor. He has been an instructor at the University of New Mexico where he taught courses on What Managers Do and Total Quality Management.
